This family of four wanted to expand the existing deck on their new construction home to create more usable outdoor space. With young children, safety was a top priority, along with selecting durable, low-maintenance materials that would hold up to everyday use and Wisconsin weather.
They were looking for a thoughtful expansion that felt intentional—not simply added on—and supported both entertaining and relaxing outdoors.
JJB Home Improvements worked from the homeowners’ original design ideas to bring their vision to life. The expanded deck was built using composite decking and aluminum railings for long-term durability and minimal maintenance.
A step-down transition was added where the new deck connects to the existing structure, creating two clearly defined zones: a dedicated grilling area and a separate space for relaxing and gathering. For added safety and functionality, we installed a lockable gate at the top of the staircase and incorporated a drink rail that enhances both everyday use and entertaining.
The finished deck now provides the family with a safe, flexible outdoor living space that grows with their needs.
