Our Lower-Level Renovating Process

Step 1 - Estimate Appointment: During the initial consultation, our estimation team will meet you at your home to talk through your budget, timeline, and project goals. From there we can put together a Preliminary Budget that best meets your top priorities. Typically, we send a Preliminary Budget Approval 1-2 business days after your on-site appointment.

Step 2 - Preliminary Budget Proposal: We’ll send you a recommended Preliminary Budget via email. This budget will outline the key components of the proposed build and what our team estimates it will cost to complete. You can either sign off on this Preliminary Budget or ask for changes to better align with your goals.

Step 3 – Preliminary Budget Approval and Design Commitment: Once you approve the Preliminary Budget, you’ll provide a small down payment for us to complete a Design Concept for your new space. This Design Concept will meet your approved budget and project goals. After you approve the Preliminary Budget, you’ll come into our office to review the design. You’ll have an opportunity to make on-the-spot revisions and walk out with both digital and hard copies of your Design.

Step 4 - Build Commitment: Once you love your design, we’ll move forward to the Build Commitment. Now that we have a finalized design, if necessary, any adjustments will be made to the Preliminary Budget. You’ll approve the Project Estimate, provide a project downpayment, and we’ll get you on the schedule!

Step 5 – Material Selection: You’ll be provided with a Lookbook for things like faucets, light fixtures, vanities, and paint selections. Our Division Director will recommend specific items for your project that you’ll pick from.

Step 6: Construction: Once you have finalized your material selections, you will be assigned a Project Manager and a Lead Carpenter. This team will begin the renovation! Your Project Manager will be your main point of contact throughout the build, they’ll provide daily communication to ensure you feel informed and comfortable throughout the entire process. You’ll have the same JJB crew on site for the duration of your project. They will become familiar with your project and your preferences. By providing a dedicated team, the entire process becomes less disruptive. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable with us in your home as we “move in” for 3-6 months.

Benefits of Basement Renovations

When it comes to loving your home, lower-levels provide the perfect space to dedicate areas that reflect your passions. Whether it’s a charming wine cellar to show off your rare wine collection, or an inspirational crafting room to grow your side business, the opportunities are endless. Taking advantage of unused square footage not only improves the functionality of your home but also gives you a space for your passions to grow.

  1. Additional Living Space: Allow your family to grow into your home by creating additional functional space for relaxation, play or practicality.
  2. Increase Equity in Your Home: Add a comp to your home with an extra bedroom or bathroom in your lower-level for maximum return on investment. We typically see an immediate 70-100% return on investment with a lower-level renovation. This means, on average, if you invest $100,000 in your basement, you’ll immediately increase your home value by $85,000. By investing in your home, you get the best of both worlds: enjoy your house to its fullest while you’re living there and if you decide to later sell or take out a Home Equity Line of Credit, the remodel practically pays for itself.
  3. Improve Comfort: No more dreading going to the cold, dark, lower-level to do laundry or to get items out of storage. Bringing light and warmth into your lower level will improve your comfort.
  4. Entertainment and Recreation: Add rooms that show off your personality and promote spending time with friends and family.
